Basic concepts of Electrical Engineering and Circuit analysis  Basic circuit elements The elements which deliver power to the circuit are known as active elements. Examples – Voltage and current sources. The elements which dissipate or store power in the circuit are known as passive elements. Examples – Resistance, Inductance, Capacitance. Note: Inductance and Capacitance are also known as reactive elements as they can both deliver and store power in the circuit. Electrical resistance   is the property of a material by virtue of which it opposes the flow of electrons through the materials. Unit of Resistance: ohm Symbol of Resistance Inductance  is the property of a material b virtue of which it opposes any change of magnitude or direction of electric current passing through the conductor. Unit of Inductance: Henry Symbol of Inductance Capacitance  is the capability of an element to store electric charge within it. Capacitance is a measure of charge per unit voltage that can be store
